I had an emergency lost dog call. Fence jumper and very curious George was out and had not been seen for two days. He was a Staffie mix and could look menacing, but was really a sweetheart. A very curious sweetheart. Lost pets can be a challenge because for me, their sense of time and space is different. I “spoke” to George. He showed me a porch, not very far from his home, he felt safe under. He showed me water and a house with planters with water he could drink from. I suggested it was okay, if George went on top of the porch when a human was around so they could get his human mom to come take him home to yummy food! Food? George liked food! I said he would get the GOOD food and he agreed he would come out from under the porch. I had to tell his human mom to first have a flyer with George’s photo and her name and number to give out. Then she had to find houses in a two-block radius with planters on the ground. George was coming home very, very soon. It was the mailman who saw George and helped him get home. While George could get curious again, his mom called back to say he doesn’t mind his new roof-topped enclosure and he seems to keep much closer by her side now.
